The S-Band Gap, a rant and observations.

Before even COVID-19 Started, I was looking for a VNA (Vector Network Analyzer) that could measure up to 6 GHz for usage at home and consulting work. The search become more urgent when COVID-19 restrictions started, and I wanted to at least get my lab up to a point where I could do some serious RF/Microwave work. Fortunately, I did not need to end up working at home, but as a precaution I kept the search on. I settled on two options from HP, 8510B, and 8753C. I ended up buying both at pretty nice prices, the 8510B needs repairs to get back into working condition, and I plan on reselling it at some point. The 8753C, on the other hand, will be my primary VNA at home.

  1. Cool! I really don't do too much high-freq and RF work, (other than HV stuff, and I don't even touch that stuff yet) I really stay in the 60HZ - 200MHZ range, especially because of microcontrollers and duty cycles. I plan on upgrading from a multimeter to an actual DMM, and I'm wondering which one to get. Do you have any suggestions?

    Thanks - Kendrick
